Foaling Kit & Check list - (taken from ultimatehorse.com)

ITEM(S): USE:
  Veterinarians Phone #  Phone Number and Emergency Number.  It is also polite to call ahead of time with an estimated foaling date to let them know you have a mare due.
  Flashlight & Batteries Many mares foal at night or early in the morning, so keep these on hand to provide light.
  Notepad & pencils To record time of key events, mare’s behavior, how foaling goes
  Watch or clock To keep track of time and record key events.
  Frozen Colostrum To give foal if mare does not produce colostrum. Good to locate a source ahead of time.
  Mild soap & warm water To wash mare (vulva, udders) prior to foaling. This will help prevent infection.
  Scissors To cut string, or break sac around foal
  Vetrap To wrap mare's tail prior to foaling.
  Iodine 7% and film canister or rinse cup To dip foal’s umbilical stump - pour iodine in clean film canister & dip foal's umbilical stump in it. This will help prevent infection. ( Nolvasan solution is very effective and not as irritating or Betadine solution)
  Towels To grasp foal to pull if needed, clean foal and mare if needed.
  String or Hemostats To tie off bleeding umbilical cord if it doesn’t break, or tie up placenta if mare does not drop it right away (tie it to itself)
  Plastic OB Gloves For vaginal check on mare or if necessary to reposition foal
  Vaseline or Sterile lubricant To lubricate for vaginal check on mare or if necessary to reposition foal
  Notepad & pencils To record time, mare’s behavior, how foaling goes
  Enemas Incase foal does not pass meconium (first poop).
  Thermometer To take mare and foals temperature.
  Zimectrin wormer Worm mare with in 24 hours of foaling to reduce foal scourers.
  Probiotics supplement Probiotics for foal, given
  Desitine Ointment To protect the baby's skin on the bum if foal scourers occurs so they don't lose their hair.
  Baby Wipes Great for cleaning foals bums.
  Twitch If mare rejects or attacks foal
  Halter & lead ropes (including stud chain) To move, tie, or restrain mare if necessary
  Plastic Bag To put placenta in. Placenta should be examined to make sure that there are no holes, tears, or pieces missing (which would mean that a piece could still be in the mare and could lead to infection).
  Clean bucket To rinse hands, foal, mare
  Paper towels To clean yourself, mare, foal, etc.
